What biochemistry studies
Biochemistry connects chemistry to living systems. A useful starting question is not just “What is this molecule?” but “How does its structure affect what a cell can do?” Carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids differ in their building blocks and roles; the same molecule can also have different functions in different contexts.

Enzymes: a short worked explanation
An enzyme binds a compatible substrate at its active site and makes a reaction pathway with a lower activation-energy barrier available. The products leave and the enzyme can be used again. It does not supply energy from nowhere or change the reaction’s equilibrium position. For example, if a question asks why activity falls outside an enzyme’s usual pH range, first consider how changed charges and shape may affect substrate binding and catalysis; do not assume every enzyme has the same optimal pH.

Connect molecules to energy transfer
Cells transform energy through linked reactions. ATP participates in transferring usable energy between processes; it is not a permanent energy store. When reading a pathway, trace the inputs, outputs, and locations before memorizing its name. Ask where matter goes as well as where energy is transferred.
برای فهم مسیرهای سوخت‌وساز، ورودی‌ها، خروجی‌ها، محل انجام واکنش و انتقال انرژی را دنبال کنید. ATP در انتقال انرژی میان فرایندها نقش دارد، نه اینکه ذخیره‌ای همیشگی باشد.
