Worked examples

Start with worked Grade 12 examples

These original examples introduce selected MAP4C expectations. The full expectation map is not a complete set of published written lessons or a substitute for official course materials and assignments. The strand-prefixed labels below identify the matching Ontario specific expectations; titles are concise study-guide paraphrases.

1. Mortgage interest for one month

Estimate one month of interest on CAD 240,000 at 6% annual interest using 6%/12.

Worked method: The monthly rate is 0.005. Interest is 240,000 × 0.005 = CAD 1,200.

2. Line of best fit prediction

A model is y = 2.5x + 10. Predict y when x = 8.

Worked method: Substitute x = 8: y = 2.5(8) + 10 = 30.

Try independently, then check

Write your own solution before opening each answer. If a step is unclear, review the matching expectation or a Grade 11 prerequisite.

Practice 1

A CAD 1800 monthly budget spends 35% on rent. Find the rent amount.

Show worked answer

0.35 × 1800 = CAD 630.

Practice 2

Find the area of a 6 m by 4 m rectangle with a 2 m by 1 m piece removed.

Show worked answer

6 × 4 − 2 × 1 = 22 m².
